Reading Bunt Locations

Fastpitch Softball Tips on reading bunt locations

The next time your team is on defense and the batter is probably going to bunt (right handed bunter), to help figure out if the bunt will be on the left or the right side of the infield have your infielders watch for the position of the batter’s Top Hand.

If the bunter’s Top Hand is pulled BACK slightly then bunt will go toward 1st base. If her Top Hand is FORWARD, then the bunt will go toward the 3rd base side.
The concept of “reading the batter’s hands” can really help give your infielders a big advantage in not only figuring out if the batter is going to bunt, but also in determining where the bunt is most likely to go.
