Defense – Read the Play

read play before get ball

In football, they teach the quarterback to read the defense while his feet are moving and that once his feet stop moving it’s time to throw. In other words, know where your likely play is before you make it. We can translate this to softball by telling our players to make sure they “read their play” BEFORE they get the ball. Once they get the ball they need to throw – instead of reading the play when they’re making their throw.
